im getting sick of living in oakland. kinda. lemme tell u about my exciting friday. woohoOo. me n cliff step outside to get lunch with a coworker-nick, thats his name-, but nick calls n says he cant make it cus he has just gotten into a car accident with his new BMW. some lady ran into him from behind while he was slowing down for a red light, and now theyre at 40th n MLK to exchange info. we're in the car anyway so we decide to go meet up with him there n help him out cus... hes not fluent in english, and hes a very very short n skinny guy who just got robbed in front of his house a few months ago. some black guy took his wallet n his CAR. so me n cliff r driving down on 40th looking for nick's car when all of a sudden a car pops out, making a fast sharp turn from MLK onto 40th.... with nick on top of the hood of the car, him holding on for his dear life. WTF. we start chasing after this car, running red lights, going 45-50 mph. nick looks pretty shocked-hes banging on the window with one hand, yelling at the lady to stop the car. after a few sharp turns nick finally falls off the car, but he gets up. assuming hes ok, we continue following the car til it stops on 45th and essex. the driver-an older black lady-runs outta her car, pointing at us and yelling out something like, "ill get u guys, watch out" something something, and then she runs into an apt building. kinda scared that she might run back out with a gun, we take off n pick up nick, whos miraculously not really injured, n meet up with two oakland officers who did nothing but take our statements. i SO wish i had taken pics, but i was busy calling 911 and being on hold. n then being transferred from/to oakland/emeryville departments cus the actual accident had happened in oakland, but we were chasing her to emeryville. well, at least we got her license plate number and the address of the apt. the pollice report took about an hour and a half, but i dont think anyone was immediately sent to the address. after all this craziness nick goes to work like nothing happened....... n me n cliff decide to go home. we get to our block, and its taped off. theres cops everywhere, ambulences, fire trucks. there has been a shooting and we cant even get into our house. Police were trying to identify the victim Friday night. The shooting happened about 5:12 p.m. at the intersection of 38th and Clarke streets in West Oakland. Police believe the man was working at a nearby construction site and was walking to his vehicle after getting off work. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Homicide Sgt. Tony Jones said police still are trying to determine a motive for the killing. The killing was Oakland's third homicide of the year.
